EDITORIAL
What we know today regarding Charcot neuropathic osteoarthropathy has evolved dramatically. Thank you to Dr. Lee Sanders for his commitment to research on this condition, and for sharing his experiences from abroad and the findings of Jean Martin Charcot. From conservative measures to surgical management, research pertaining to Charcot neuropathic osteoarthropathy continues to grow to help physicians manage this detrimental pathology. Charcot neuropathic osteoarthropathy is not exclusively found in patients with diabetes, but this is the most common form we see in our practice. The articles selected for this issue are a collective overview of where we began from a historical perspective and the possibilities of reconstruction with surgical management, whether it is internal or external fixation, as well as the location of fixation depending on preoperative evaluation. This edition reviews the history of Jean Martin Charcot, the evolution of how we came to understand this pathology, and how we manage it today.
